It has been too long since I got to play real meaningful baseball, not related to a college showcase events.
Yesterday was our first scrimmage against another Dallas ISD athletics team and we won 11-10. I am less worried about a scrimmage win than when we were down by three in the seventh, we found a way to get on base, move runners, and come out on top in the clutch.
For those who ask, I went 2-2 at the plate with a pair of walks. I also got two stolen bases, 3 runs, and a pair of RBI. It would have been nice to have a little more plate pop, but again, the team got the W so it is okay.
Pitching I would rather not talk about, but I did start off the game and I am honored Coach Brewer gave me the nod to start the game and named me a Team Captain this year. I got an inning of work in with two strike outs and a walk.
Too Long, But For Some, Never
I know it has been tough not playing baseball and playing in pretty frigid weather for Texas, but remember, lots of kids never get to see the diamond because they are battling cancer or other medical conditions.
If you get the chance, please check out Strike Out Kids Cancer Foundation, a nonprofit I started to bring baseball (and other sports) to those kids who don’t get to be on the field with us, but have hearts big enough to fill the stadium.
